Stipendien zur Teilnahme am 6. RDA Plenary

Research Data Alliance’s (RDA) European chapter is offering travel and subsistence support to Early Career European Researchers & Scientists working with Data to attend the next RDA Plenary meeting in Paris, 23-25 September 2015.

At its 4th edition, the aim of this programme is to introduce European Early Career researchers & scientists to RDA, highlight what data scientists / practitioners are doing, leverage on Early Career Researchers & Scientists knowledge to support Plenary 6 activities and support the Working Group and Interest Group activities.

The applicants should satisfy the following criteria:

Currently engaged in Bachelor, Masters, PhD or Post Doc studies
Study is conducted in a higher education or research institution based in Europe
Studies are of relevance & pertinence to RDA, and cover at least one of the Working or Interest Group subjects
Previous programme winners should not re-apply

Deadline for applications: 11th 20th July 2015, midnight CET.

Volunteers für re:publica 13 gesucht!

Mit dem Motto IN/SIDE/OUT wird am 6-8 Mai 2013 in Station Berlin die diesjährige re:publica stattfinden. Unter den Speakers sind diesmal auch Aktivisten aus der akademischen Welt dabei, mit den Themen wie Digitaldarwinismus (Wieso simulieren E-Books das Blättern von Papier?), Gute MOOCs – böse MOOCs? (Openness als Killerkriterium!) und natürlich eine Menge Data (Open Data – und was hat das mit mir zu tun?, Data in Concert: A sonification party you can dance to, Faszination Grundlagenforschung – Das Higgs, Big Data und die Teilchenphysik).
Für all dies werden noch Helfer gesucht:

In diesem Jahr gilt folgender Deal: du übernimmst eine Schicht von 8 Stunden vor, während oder nach der Veranstaltung und kannst die re:publica mindestens zwei Tage kostenfrei besuchen. An den Tagen, an denen du im Einsatz bist, ist für kostenlose Verpflegung gesorgt. Und als Teammitglied der re:publica bekommst du auch das offizielle re:publica 2013 T-Shirt.

Call For Participation for iConference 2011, slated for Feb. 8-11 in Seattle.

The goal of iConference 2011 is to create an unparalleled intellectual experience that focuses on information challenges and opportunities, while at the same time promoting excellence in research and building community. Our four-day format will include papers, posters, workshops and myriad alternative events. Also being organized is a Doctoral Student Colloquium and a Junior Faculty & Postdoc Colloquium, popular venues at past iConferences. All will be offered in a shared, onsite experience that fosters interaction, spontaneity, reflection, and forward movement.

Die Anmeldungen für die iConference 2010 in Illinois (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) laufen. Hier noch einige Informationen über die keynote speaker:

Stephen Wolfram, founder & CEO of Wolfram Research, creator of Mathematica and Wolfram|Alpha, and Marti Hearst, a professor at UC Berkeley currently working in the Obama administration, are the keynote speakers for the fifth annual iConference, which will be held at the iHotel and Conference Center at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, on Feb. 3-6, 2010. The iConference is sponsored by the iSchools, a growing number of leading information schools across the globe who have joined together to build awareness of, support for, and involvement with the information field. The theme of this year’s conference is “Impacts,” particularly concerning the Obama Administration’s commitment to promoting open government and citizen participation. Hearst, a professor in the School of Information at the University of California, Berkeley, will discuss how information technology is playing a new central role in the governing of the United States. Additional sessions throughout the conference will focus on international perspectives on information, its management and application, public access, social networking, health informatics, and community engagement. Wolfram is scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, in the Chancellor Ballroom at the iHotel. Hearst speaks at 10:30 am Friday, Feb. 5. Both plenaries are free and open to the public. Early registration ends Friday, January 15. Registration costs are $300 regular attendee/$100 students. After that date, regular registration is $375 regular attendee/$125 students. An awards banquet will be held on Friday, Feb. 5. The cost is $50 regular attendee/$10 student.

Bis zur 5ten iConference in Illinois ist es nicht mehr lang (03.-06.02.2010) und bis zum 18.11.2009 können noch Abstracts für Papers, Poster, “roundtable discussions” und “wildcards” (siehe Anhang) eingereicht werden. Das Thema für 2010 ist iMPACTS. Unter anderem spielen Fragen wie: “What are the broad impacts (actualized and potential) of the iSchool movement? How can impact be defined, identified, measured and communicated to key audiences?” eine Rolle.

Call for Papers ISI 2009 in Konstanz

Vom 1.-3. April 2009 wird an der Universität Konstanz die gemeinsame Tagung des Hochschulverbands Informationswissenschaft (11. Internationale Symposium für Informationswissenschaft) und der IuK-Initiative Wissenschaft (15. Jahrestagung) ISI 2009 mit dem Thema “Information: Droge, Ware oder Commons?
Wertschöpfungs- und Transformationsprozesse auf den Informationsmärkten” stattfinden. Weitere Information sowie den Call for Papers gibt es auf der Webseite www.isi2009.de. Für das studentische Programm wird es einen eigenen Call for Papers geben. Weiterhin interessant ist die Verleihung des Gerhard-Lustig Preises für studentische Abschlussarbeiten.
