Maxi Die Vernetzungstage 2011 und der IUWIS-Workshop “Urheberrecht und Repositorien” finden vom 2. bis 4. März an der Universität Osnabrück statt. Auf der Tagungswebseite sind das Tagungsprogramm und alle notwendigen Informationen nachzulesen sowie das Anmeldeformular zu finden. Wir bitten um baldmögliche Registrierung, da wir nur eine begrenzte Anzahl an Teilnehmerplätzen zur Verfügung stellen können.
Die Vernetzungstage 2011 werden vom DFG-Projekt „Open-Access-Netzwerk 2“ (OA-Netzwerk) in Zusammenarbeit mit Zusammenarbeit mit dem Projekt IUWIS und der Deutschen Initiative für Netzwerkinformation e. V. (DINI) gestaltet und an der Universität Osnabrück durch das Institut für wissenschaftliche Information Osnabrück e.V. (IWI) ausgerichtet.

Marlies_Olensky Over the last years, Digital Libraries have taken over a central role in our society. The process of acquiring, creating, processing, retrieving, disseminating, and using knowledge, information, data and metadata has undergone and still continues to undergo significant changes. This includes an ever increasing public access to on-line resources, an evolution in the amount and diversity of resources that are available through this channel, a social shift in the paradigm of how to experience information towards interactive, globally collaborative and personalized approaches, and many more. The European Conference on Research and Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries (ECDL) has been the leading European scientific forum on digital libraries for 14 years. For the 15th year the conference was renamed into: International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries (TPDL). In this spirit, TPDL 2011 aims at providing a forum for researchers, developers, content providers and practitioners for presenting and discussing novel results from innovative research and systems development on Digital Libraries.
Authors are invited to submit research papers describing original, unpublished research that is not (and will not be) simultaneously under consideration for publication elsewhere. TPDL 2011 solicits the submission of full (12 pages max.) and short (8 pages max.) research papers and demos. Kathrin In a move that underscores the vibrancy and international nature of the information field, the iCaucus has announced the host institutions for its upcoming conferences.
iConference 2012 will take place in Toronto, Canada, hosted by the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information. iConference 2013 will return to the U.S., where it will be hosted by the College of Information at the University of North Texas, in Denton, TX. For 2014 the iConference will move to Berlin, Germany, where it will be hosted by the Berlin School of Library and Information Science at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, in partnership with the following European iSchools: the School of Information and Library Studies at University College Dublin (Ireland); the Royal School of Library and Information Science (Denmark); and the Information School at the University of Sheffield (England).
“On behalf of the iCaucus, I would like to express our gratitude to the hosts of our upcoming seventh, eighth, and ninth annual conferences,” said iCaucus Chair Harry Bruce, dean of the Information School at the University of Washington. “The iConference is a signature event for iScholars and information researchers, and in its first decade has grown into a significant international gathering. Ours is a multidiscipline field, and the iConference serves to bring together information scholars and professionals from myriad backgrounds.”
The iConference is an annual gathering of information researchers and professionals who share a passion for making a difference through the study of people, information, and technology. It attracts faculty, students, and researchers, as well as government and private-sector professionals. All are welcome to join this shared, onsite experience that fosters interaction, spontaneity, reflection, and forward movement.

SandraL Olaf Hamann, Alumnus des IBI und Leiter der Osteuropa-Abteilung der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz, hält am Dienstag, den 14. Dezember 2010, um 18 Uhr in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Osteuropa-Zentrum Berlin einen Vortrag zur Problematik der während des Zweiten Weltkrieges kriegsbedingt verbrachten Büchersammlungen. Der Vortrag basiert auf vielen Erfahrungen, die Herr Hamann in den letzten 15 Jahren bei der Suche nach den Sammlungen deutscher Bibliotheken in den Nachfolgerepubliken der UdSSR gemacht hat.
Titel der Veranstaltung ist: “Der Krieg und die Bücher : Evakuierung, Zerstörung, Raub und Rekonstruktion von Bibliotheken während und nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg.”

Inhalt der Veranstaltung:
Die Einwirkung von Kriegen auf Bibliotheken ist meist destruktiv. Nur selten können Bibliotheken des Siegers nach einem Krieg Bücher-Beute in ihre Sammlungen integrieren. Und selbst hier sind mehr Einrichtungen von dem Raub eben dieser Bücher und den Zerstörungen durch Kriegsereignisse betroffen. Der Vortrag widmet sich in erster Linie den Auswirkungen des Zweiten Weltkrieges auf die Bibliotheken der für Europa zentralen Kriegsgegner Deutschland und die Sowjetunion. Es wird herausgearbeitet, wie der Raub und die Zerstörung von Büchersammlungen durchgeführt wurde, welche Konsequenzen dies für die jeweiligen Bibliothekssysteme hatte und wie Bibliothekare sich noch heute darum bemühen, in gemeinsamer Arbeit die Folgen dieser Ereignisse zu bewältigen.
Biographie:
Olaf Hamann hat nach einem Studium der Politik, Nordeuropa- und Bibliothekswissenschaften in Moskau und Berlin 1990 in der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin eine Tätigkeit als wissenschaftlicher Bibliothekar aufgenommen. Er befasst sich seit nahezu zwei Jahrzehnten u.a. mit Fragen kriegsbedingt verbrachter Kulturgüter und ihrer Restitution sowie NS-Raubgut in Bibliotheken. Seit 2007 leitet er die Osteuropa-Abteilung der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin.

konsti Im Seminar “Die Kulturwissenschaftliche Bibliothek. Geschichte, Praxis, Zukunft” von Claudia Schmölders gibt es noch Restplätze, die sicher auch und gerade für StudentInnen der Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft interessant sein dürften. In der praktisch angelegten Veranstaltung werden namhafte Akteure der Bibliothekswelt zu verschiedenen Themen referrieren und es werden Führungen u.a. durch die Staatsbibliothek angeboten.
Mit Prof. Stefan Gradmann, der europeana vorstellen wird und Ben Kaden, der das Thema Bibliothekswissenschaft Heute behandelt, sind auch Wissenschaftler unseres Instituts vertreten.
Wer also Donnerstags von 16:15 – 17:45 Zeit hat, in die Sophienstraße 22a, Raum 4.11 zu kommen, sollte sich das nicht entgehen lassen

Elke Am vergangenen Dienstag fand am IBI die zweite Hall0ween-Lecture von Eric Steinhauer zum Thema “Vampyrologie für Bibliothekare” statt und knapp 150 Teilnehmer genossen einen spannenden Vortrag. Für alle, die nicht dabei sein konnten, gibt es wenigstens ein Foto und den Hinweis, dass man den Vortrag auch bald als Buch erhalten kann.

Maxi “Wissen schafft Vernetzung: Kooperationen & Mehrwertdienste für Repositorien in vernetzten Umgebungen“
Die Vernetzungstage 2011 werden vom DFG-Projekt „Open-Access-Netzwerk 2“ (OA-Netzwerk) in Zusammenarbeit mit der Deutschen Initiative für Netzwerkinformation e. V. (DINI) ausgerichtet. Sie finden vom 3.-4. März 2011 an der Universität Osnabrück statt.
Vernetzung von Wissen lässt sich durch die Vernetzung von Open-Access-Repositorien sichtbar machen wie auch mit neuen Diensten voranbringen. Wir laden daher dazu ein, auf den Vernetzungstagen 2011 die folgenden Themen zu diskutieren und bitten um Vorschläge für Beiträge:
- Vernetzung von digitalen Objekten wie Publikationen, Forschungsdaten und anderen Daten (Enhanced Publications, Linked Open Data etc.)
- Übergreifende (Mehrwert-)Dienste in einer verteilten Publikationsinfrastruktur
- Vernetzung und Integration von Repositorien und Publikationsmanagement
- Organisatorische Vernetzung in Form von Kooperationen
- mit Blick auf die Nachhaltigkeit von geförderten Projekten
- internationale Netzwerke von Repositorien
- unter dem Aspekt der Langzeitarchivierung
- Rechtliche Fragestellungen, die durch die Aggregation und Vernetzung von Inhalten entstehen
- Vernetzung von disziplinären und institutionellen Repositorien
- Ansätze und Erfahrungsberichte („Erfolgsgeschichten“) der lokalen/überregionalen/fachlichen Sammlung und Vernetzung von Inhalten
- Wissenschaftliches Publizieren unter vernetzten Bedingungen
Die Vernetzungstage 2011 richten sich neben Betreibern von Repositorien und Entwicklern von Mehrwertdiensten im Kontext von Repositorien insbesondere an Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler verschiedener Fachdisziplinen, die vor dem Hintergrund ihrer Disziplin oder Fachgesellschaft mehr über Open-Access-Repositorien und Mehrwertdienste erfahren möchten.
Insbesondere laden wir zur Einreichung von Beiträgen aus dem wissenschaftlichen Umfeld ein, die sich mit dem wissenschaftlichen Publizieren unter vernetzten Bedingungen beschäftigen und Wünsche und Anforderungen hinsichtlich Funktionalitäten und Mehrwertdiensten formulieren.
Darüber hinaus sollen die Vernetzungstage eine systematische Darstellung der Projekte und Aktivitäten im Bereich Elektronisches Publizieren bieten und Anlass zum konkreten Austausch sein.

die technischen Details der Themen, die in den Lehrveranstaltungen IBI behandelt werden, jagen manch StudierendeR einen kalten Schauer über den Rücken.
Dieses Semester gibt es eine studentische Veranstaltung zu fortgeschrittenen technischen Themen, denen wir in entspannter Atmosphäre mit und praktischer Anwendung zuleibe rücken wollen.
Die Frustration, die viele IBI-StudentInnen empfinden, wenn Sie sich mit komplexeren technischen Themen beschäftigen müssen oder wollen, resultiert nicht selten daraus, dass die praktischen Grundlagen fehlen. Solche Themen sind bspw.:
- Programmieren kleinerer Skripte
- Arbeiten mit strukturierten Daten wie XML
- Nutzung von Diensten des Semantic Web
- Erstellen typographisch anspruchsvoller Dokumente mit LaTeX
Um Aufgaben wie diese effizient und mit schnellen Erfolgserlebnissen zu lösen, bedarf es des richtigen Handwerkszeugs:
- Eine übersichtliche und programmierfreundliche Arbeitsumgebung
- Die Nutzung bestehender Softwarepakete
Ihr werdet erfahren, wie mensch sich eine solche Umgebung aufbaut und mit einigen Grundkenntnissen die Technologien praktisch nutzen kann, die für die Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft von großer Bedeutung sind.
Die Veranstaltung hat informellen Charakter, es gibt keine Studienpunkte. Dafür werden keine Vorkenntnisse erwartet, vielmehr soll Raum sein für Fragen zu technischen Themen aller Art und jeden Niveaus. Eingeladen sind alle StudentInnen, die gerne mehr über UNIX, Perl, XML, LaTeX, APIs und Co. lernen (oder vermitteln!) wollen, ob Bachelor, Master oder Magister.

The iConference 2011 planning committee is pleased to announce that the National Science Foundation has agreed to provide funding for the iConference Doctoral Student Colloquium. This means doctoral student participants will receive financial assistance to help defer their expenses.
The application deadline for the iConference Doctoral Colloquium is November 1, 2010. Applications are encouraged from any and all doctoral students, regardless of whether or not they are enrolled in a member iSchool. The 2011 iConference takes place February 8 through 11, 2011, in Seattle, WA. The Doctoral Colloquium itself takes place all day on February 11. The
Colloquium will provide doctoral students with the opportunity to present their work to senior faculty and one another in a setting that is relatively informal but that allows for the fullest of intellectual exchanges. Students will receive feedback on their dissertation and/or current research from participating faculty and student peers.
Applications to participate in the iConference Doctoral Colloquium are
encouraged from any and all doctoral students. We are seeking broad
representation, and participation is not limited to iSchool students.
The 2011 iConference is hosted by the University of Washington Information

Maxi Auch in diesem Jahr beteiligt sich die Humboldt-Universität an der internationalen Open Access Week (18. bis 24. Oktober 2010) mit mehreren Aktionen, die gemeinsam durch den Computer- und Medienservice (Arbeitsgruppe Elektronisches Publizieren) und das Institut für Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft getragen werden.
Im Rahmen der “edoc roadschow” findet am Dienstag, dem 19. Oktober, um 15 Uhr eine Informationsveranstaltung am Institut für Europäische Ethnologie in der Mohrenstraße 41 in Berlin-Mitte statt. Darin geht es unter anderem um Dienste, die der edoc-Server im Bereich des elektronischen Publizierens bereithält. Eingeladen sind interessierte HU-Angehörige – natürlich auch außerhalb des Instituts für Ethnologie.
Am Mittwoch, dem 20. Oktober, bietet die Aktionsgruppe aus CMS und IBI in der Zeit von 10 bis 13 Uhr eine “Open-Access-Sprechstunde” im Foyer des Hauptgebäudes (im Seitenflügel bei der Studienabteilung) der Humboldt-Universität, Unter den Linden 6, ebenfalls in der Berliner Mitte, an. Dort wird an einem Infostand über Open Access und die Möglichkeiten des elektronischen Publizierens an der Humboldt-Universität informiert.
Während der gesamten Open Access Week läuft auf mehreren öffentlichen Bildschirmen in Gebäuden der HU ein kurzes Video, das die wesentlichen Fragen rund um Open Access auf spielerische Art beantwortet.

Greetings to everyone!
We are now just two weeks from the August 30 submission deadline for iConference
2011. This is the date on which full papers will be due, as well as poster
abstracts and alternative events proposals.
The 2011 iConference will be our sixth annual gathering of researchers and
professionals who share the goal of making a difference through the study of
people, information, and technology. The event will showcase diversity in
research interests and approaches, and demonstrate how the field creates
leadership and impact on a global scale.
The four days will include peer-reviewed papers, posters, and alternative
events. Also being organized is a Doctoral Student Colloquium (the application
deadline is November 1) and a Junior Faculty & Postdoc Colloquium. The event
will be held at Seattle’s Renaissance Hotel, locally hosted by the University of
Washington Information School. Papers and poster abstracts will be published in
the ACM Digital Library.
Authors and organizers can now submit full papers, poster abstracts, and
alternative events proposals at http://www.ischools.org/iConference11/participation/.
The link for author registration and the submission process appears under the
“Instructions for Authors” header. All submitting authors must also provide
basic information and agree to copyright parameters as a condition of acceptance

We are pleased to announce that the Paper Submission date for IDCC10 has been extended by 2 weeks. The Call will now close at 1700 BST (that’s 1600 UTC, 1800 CEST, 12pm EDT, 9am PDT) on Monday 9 August 2010.
Submissions can be in the form of an abstract (maximum of 1000 words) for practice based papers or a full paper (maximum 12 pages) for research based papers.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) will provide limited travel awards for graduate students whose papers are accepted for the conference.
Presenting at the conference offers you the chance to:-
- Share good practice, skills and knowledge transfer
- Influence and inform future digital curation policy & practice
- Test out curation resources and toolkits
- Explore collaborative possibilities and partnerships

Greetings to everyone!
We are now accepting submissions for iConference 2011, our sixth annual gathering of researchers and professionals who share the goal of making a
difference through the study of people, information, and technology. The event
will showcase diversity in research interests and approaches, and demonstrate
how the field creates leadership and impact on a global scale.
The four days will include peer-reviewed papers, posters, and alternative
events. Also being organized is a Doctoral Student Colloquium and a Junior
Faculty Camp; Postdoc Colloquium, popular venues at past iConferences. The event will be held at Seattle’s Renaissance Hotel, and the local host is the
University of Washington Information School. Papers and poster abstracts will be
published in the ACM Digital Library.

The Information Interaction in Context conference ( IIiX ) explores the
relationships between and within the contexts that affect information
retrieval and information seeking, how these contexts impact
information behavior, and how knowledge of information contexts and
behaviors improves the design of interactive information systems.
The intention of IIiX is to foster an integrated approach to
information access by bringing together members of the research
communities in information seeking behavior, interactive information
retrieval, and information retrieval system design.

HCIR WORKSHOP
The 4th Annual Workshop on Human-Computer Interaction and Information
Retrieval (HCIR 2010) will be held in conjunction with IIiX 2010. HCIR
is the study of information retrieval (IR) techniques that bring human
intelligence into the search process. It combines research from the
fields of human-computer interaction (HCI) and IR, placing an emphasis
on human involvement in search activities. Additional details can be

Matti In der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (Haus Potsdamer Straße) werden in näherer Zukunft zwei Veranstaltungen zu Open Access durchgeführt.
Die erste findet am Donnerstagabend in dieser Woche, 24.06. von 18.15 Uhr bis 19.45 Uhr statt mit dem Titel “Open Access – Zur Korrektur einiger populärer Annahmen“. Vortragen wird der OA-Kritikier Uwe Jochum.
Am 30.06. ist Peter Schirmbacher als Referent eingeladen, um einige der Argumente aufzuheben. Er wird zu “Möglichkeiten und gegenwärtige Grenzen des wissenschaftlichen elektronischen Publizierens mit besonderem Bezug auf Veröffentlichungen nach den Open-Access-Prinzipien” am Mittwochabend, 30.06. ebenfalls von 18.15 Uhr bis 19.45 Uhr im Haus Potsdamer Straße referieren.
Beide Veranstaltungen finden im Rahmen der “Wissenswerkstatt” der StaBi statt.
